STIGMA SOSIAL DAN STRATEGI BERTAHAN HIDUP PEKERJA BADUT JALANAN DI KOTA PALANGKA RAYA

Abstract

Street clowns are part of the informal sector that has developed in urban public spaces due to economic limitations and difficulties in obtaining formal employment. This study aims to analyze the social stigma and survival strategies of street clowns in Palangka Raya City. A qualitative case study approach was employed. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving five purposively selected informants. The findings reveal that street clown work is chosen because it is easily accessible, requires little capital, and provides daily income for family needs. Survival strategies include utilizing strategic work locations, public spaces, and interactions with road users. In addition, street clowns experience social stigma in the form of ridicule, negative perceptions, and social labeling. This study concludes that the street clown phenomenon reflects both survival efforts and experiences of social stigma in urban society.
